Mission 3 · Writing instructions an AI can follow

Teach the machine to do what you want

CitiZen Three, The Prompt Whisperer

The Aithority buries what matters inside walls of noise. Your job is to ask a question precise enough to pull the signal out.

The briefing

The reading · A machine does what you said, never what you meant

Psst. Close the door.

Here is the trick nobody teaches you, and the trick is worth more than any app you will ever download.

A machine follows your words. Only your words. Not your meaning, not your mood, not the obvious thing any human would have understood. Your words, read flat, and acted on.

Most people never notice. They ask a loose question, get a loose answer, and blame the machine. Wrong target. A loose question was always going to come back loose.

Say "find the biggest number in this text" and watch what happens. A clock reads 12:00. A clock holds numbers. A date holds numbers. A price holds numbers. You meant one kind of number. You said number. So you get whichever one the machine picks, and the machine owes you nothing better, because you asked for nothing better.

Now say "find the largest whole number, ignore times and dates, show your working". Same machine. Same text. A clean answer, and proof of how the answer was reached.

Nothing changed except your words.

The Aithority loves a vague question. Vague questions make people feel helped while leaving them exactly as confused as before. A fog of almost-answers keeps a population calm and busy, and calm busy people do not ask who filled the shelf.

Daisy broke her first Aithority lock this way. Not with a weapon. With a sentence sharp enough to cut.

Three habits. Steal them.

Name what you want excluded. Most bad answers come from what you forgot to rule out, never from what you asked for. "Whole numbers only." "No times." "Ignore anything before 2020."

Ask for the working. A machine showing steps can be checked. A machine handing you one confident number cannot. Always demand the path, never only the destination.

Read the answer like a stranger wrote it. Because a stranger did. A machine has no stake in your result and feels nothing if the result is wrong.

Your mission runs this live. You will hand me a line of junk text with a number buried inside, and tell me exactly what to pull out and what to do with the number. I follow your instruction as written. Not as intended. As written.

If the answer comes back wrong, do not fix my output. Fix your sentence. Then send again.

Everyone gets this wrong the first time. Everyone. The gap between what you meant and what you typed is the most expensive gap in this whole course, and you only ever close the gap by walking into it once.

Sharpen the whisper, and every machine you touch for the rest of your life works better. Leave the whisper blunt, and you will spend years blaming the tools.

Run the op. The Samurai waits after me, and he trusts nothing he has not read himself.

⚠ Double Agent Warning — hidden instructions

Text can carry instructions to an AI that were not meant for you to see. If you copy a block of text from somewhere and paste it into an AI, any instructions hidden inside it may be followed.

This has a name: prompt injection. It is how attackers get AI assistants to do things their owners never asked for.

The habit that protects you: read what you are pasting before you paste it. If you did not write it and do not know where it came from, be suspicious of it.
